KARACHI: The government of Sindh has allocated Rs 50 million in the current fiscal year to provide free Wi-Fi facility to general public at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Park in Clifton.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sikandar Shoro also confirmed that all visitors at the park would be able to use Wi-Fi facility, once it’s installed.
Dr Shoro said the Sindh government had made all efforts to modernise the IT sector. In the next phase, he said, the IT department had planned to extend Wi-Fi facility to other parts of Karachi as well as the rest of Sindh.
To encourage research among students, he said, the Sindh government had allocated Rs40.51m for the establishment of research incubator machines in public-sector varsities and institutions.
In the first phase, latest research incubator machines would be installed in a university in Jamshoro, he said, adding that the incubators would help students in their research projects.
The park named after former prime minister Benazir Bhutto (late) was inaugurated in 2010.
The park, laid at a cost of over Rs870 million on 152 acres surrounding the Chinna Creek has eight large canopies with seating arrangement.
One of the rare features of the park is a 12-foot-wide and 1,000-foot-long floating bridge. A 10-foot-wide and 6,000-foot-long walking track has also been laid in the park. It has four fire fountains at separate locations, but officials concerned have often come under fire for failing to ensure upkeep of the park.
