PARACHINAR: According to political sources, a suicide bomber blew himself near the Toori market which caused as many casualties. The second blast, according to sources, took place when a crowd had assembled after the initial bomb blast.
According to the ISPR, two army aviation helicopters have been taken off from Peshawar to Parachinar for speedy evacuation of the injured. The rescue operation is in progress.
The killed and the injured are being shifted to local hospitals, where emergency has been declared.
Contingents of Pak Army and FC have reached the site and started rescue operation.
Emergency is declared in all the hospitals of Parachinar.
The intensity of the blast could be gauged from the damage that has been caused to the houses and cars in the vicinity, said Kurram Agency political agent Shoukat Yousafzai.
According to sources, many of the injured are in critical condition hence the death toll could rise further.
Earlier during the day, a bomb blast had killed as many as 13 people in Quetta and injured scores.
Kurram agency is considered one of the most sensitive tribal regions as it borders three Afghan provinces and was once the main route for cross-border militant activity.
Earlier this year in March, a car bomb blast outside an imambargah located in a busy Parachinar market claimed the lives of 24 people and left 90 others injured.
In January, at least 25 people were killed and over 65 injured early in the morning when a powerful explosion ripped through a crowded marketplace in Parachinar, officials said. The explosion had occurred early morning around 8:50AM in the city’s Eidgah market, where a large number of people were shopping for fruits and vegetables.
