Facebook’s Safety Check is a useful feature used after blasts, earthquakes or other emergency situations. For this reason, Facebook is continuously working on it in order to improve this feature with each passing day. Yesterday, Facebook has announced some recent improvements in this feature. Facebook Safety Check Now Includes Status Updates and Fundraisers.
The most practical addition is the ability to add more personal context to Safety Check. Previously, users could only declare themselves safe in Facebook. Now users can add further comments to that status, explaining their current situation and what is happening around them.
Additionally, Facebook is partnering with NC4, a global crisis reporting agency, to provide more context on the crises themselves. It’s a quick way for someone logging into Facebook to inform themselves on what’s going on before declaring they are safe.

Chief operating officer at Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg announced on her official account that:
“With just a click, Facebook’s Safety Check lets you tell friends and family you’re safe during a crisis. Over the past two years, it’s been activated more than 600 times and used to notify people more than a billion times. Today we’re announcing a few ways we’re making it even better.”
When people get a notification that someone is safe they often want more information. Now users can share notes with friends within Safety Check to let them know more about your situation. They can also do crisis descriptions about what happened.
People also want to help. In the US, you’ll see the option to create personal fundraisers and raise money for necessities when users check in. And Community Help — a way to ask for things like shelter, food and supplies — will pop every time Safety Check is activated.
