ISLAMABAD: In its fight against Covid-19, Pakistan has achieved another corner by completely vaccinating 70 per cent or7.9 million scholars, progressed between 12 and 17 times, in just six months.
Talking to Dawn, prophet for the Ministry of National Health Services Sajid Shah said the decision to vaccinate all the 11.3 million scholars in that age group on a precedence base was taken after it was observed that they didn’t develop complications but were infecting elder members of their families.
Mr Shah said the targeted vaccination drive was launched on September 1. Since Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Faisal Sultan and Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar were eager to achieve the corner, the target of vaccinating 70pc scholars was achieved within six months, he added.
The functionary said9.7 million (86pc) scholars had formerly entered at least one shot of Covid-19 vaccine.
Considering the fast pace of targeted vaccination drive, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) last month also decided to approach Covax to untwine its vaccination programme for children progressed between five and 11 times (numbering43.7 million).
The NCOC also had blazoned that supporter cure would be made obligatory in coming days by making it part of routine immunisation.
