ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Monday that the administration welcomed constructive criticism from the media, acknowledging that it was vital for better governance for the press to criticize its policies.
When a team from the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) called on him at the Prime Minister’s office, the prime minister stated that mutual trust was the foundation of the relationship between the government and the media.
He asserted that his government considered the media to be the fourth pillar of the state and that there was total freedom of expression in the nation.
The prime minister took use of the occasion to emphasize the positive achievements of his government, including preventing default, lowering inflation, reforming the FBR, and implementing anti-smuggling policies.
He added that the advantages of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were beginning to show and that Pakistan’s reputation had been restored on the international front.
In a statement released by the PM Office, delegation members expressed gratitude for the improvement in economic statistics and promised that the media will keep contributing to the advancement of the country and better government.
Additionally, they commended the PM’s attempts to lower electricity costs through negotiations with independent power producers (IPPs).
