On Monday, the West Indies won a Test match in Pakistan for the first time in almost 35 years thanks to five wickets taken by spinner Jomel Warrican.
To tie the series 1-1, the West Indies won the second Test at Multan by 120 runs on the third day.
In Multan, Pakistan won the first Test by a margin of 127 runs.
Warrican gave the hosts a taste of their own medicine on spin-friendly surfaces by finishing with nine wickets in the match and 19 in the series.
After going winless on their travels in 1997 and 2006, the West Indies last triumphed in a Test match in Pakistan in November 1990 at Faisalabad.
West Indian captain Kraigg Brathwaite stated, “It’s amazing that we came here and did it as a young team. We haven’t played in Pakistan for a number of years, but we haven’t won here in a long time.”
He commended the efforts of top player Warrican, who won player of the series and player of the match after scoring 36 not out in the West Indies’ opening 163 innings.
“It’s good to see him get some runs along with wickets because, aside from his excellent bowling, he always claims to be one of the best offspin players in the Caribbean.”
Shan Masood, the captain of Pakistan, defended his team’s spin tactic.
“We were in the desired position on the first day—even better, perhaps, when we had them eight down,” he remarked.
Saud Shakeel was the key to Pakistan’s triumph when they resumed at 76-4 and chased 254, but Kevin Sinclair put the left-hander in the slips for 13 to severely hurt the home team’s waning hopes.
Pakistan was swept out for 133, with Babar Azam scoring the highest at 31 and Mohammad Rizwan at 25.
Pakistan was reduced to 76-6 as Warrican bowled Nightwatchman Kashif Ali for one with a straighter ball.
Before Warrican dismissed the latter leg for 15, Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha shared 39 for the seventh wicket. Warrican then bowled Rizwan to put the tourists within two wickets of victory.
Warrican rightfully claimed the final wicket, bowled Sajid Khan for seven to complete the victory, while Gudakesh Motie, who took 2-35, dismissed Noman Ali for six.
The West Indies ended eighth in the World Test Championship standings, while Pakistan fell to ninth and last as a result of the loss.
