Sayyar Ahmed dressed in new clothes for his first big protest, in Tukur, about 8km from Ganowpora. Apart from his six friends, no-one at home knew where he was going. When these friends reached Tengwun, there were clashes going on between 3,000 protesters and Indian Occupation Forces stopping people from reaching Tukur, for a freedom rally. The Police encircled the protesters firing indiscriminately. A volley of pellets hit Sayyar in the head and “as he fell three CRPF troopers came near him and shot a tear smoke canister at his head again,” Recalls Rayees, who saw his brain matter spill on the road after CRPF kept kicking him fro two minutes until he stopped moving.
Meanwhile, his family led by his maternal uncle Mohammad Rafiq Lone had started searching for him as his father Shameem Ahmad Sheikh and elder brother, Shafayat were in Tral for labour work. After finding him in the hospital, he held his hand during CPR, it soon went limp and fell.
